Placemaking In The Parks

PLACEMAKING IN THE PARKS

Imagine if The Parks is a productive and thriving center of prosperity with magnetic Districts that attract targeted capital investment and job growth ... What would that look like?

Placemaking in The Parks is a multi-year strategy that is focused on job creation and economic growth in Loves Park and Machesney Park, Illinois. Through The Parks Chamber, leaders from the public, private, and nonprofit sectors are pooling resources and providing strategic leadership to guide the development of newly-defined Districts into magnetic destinations that attract people to live, visit, and invest in The Parks.

The framing question of this initiative is “imagine if The Parks is a productive and thriving center of prosperity with magnetic Districts that attract targeted capital investment and job growth ... What would that look like?”

We believe that the work of Placemaking is crucial during these challenging economic times, because it will equip our community with the infrastructure, incentives, and identity to thrive in the long-term.

THE MISSION

The mission of Placemaking in The Parks is to cultivate a thriving economy and prosperity for all citizens in the City of Loves Park and Village of Machesney Park by co-creating and implementing holistic Placemaking strategies that guide the growth and development of Districts into Magnetic Destinations for commerce and healthy living.

We believe that collaborative, strategic action can cultivate a thriving economy and prosperity for all in The Parks.

THE OPPORTUNITY

We know that successful Placemaking is co-created across municipal boundaries and sectors, and it is rooted in a holistic strategy that is action-oriented.

Placemaking starts with public spaces and amenities but does not end there. Transformative Placemaking creates “Magnetic Destinations” for commerce, housing, learning, and healthy living.

The Parks can define and grow thriving Districts with a "sense of place" that attract and retain businesses and residents, thereby creating economic prosperity for all.
